The internet loves absolutes: always go below parallel, or never let your knees pass your toes. Real bodies are more nuanced.

What depth is for

Deeper squats increase range of motion and glute involvement — but only if you can get there without your pelvis tucking under (the dreaded 'butt wink').

Hips crease below the knee = below parallel. Watch the spine stay neutral throughout.
  • Hips crease below the knee = below parallel
  • Stop where your spine stays neutral
  • Ankle and hip mobility set your ceiling

How OurFit measures it

We track hip and knee angle across the descent and flag the bottom of each rep, so 'depth' becomes a number you can watch improve — not a guess.
